Many 1960's/70's kids tv series had some sort of lamp or light shade in their merchandise portfolio.
And The Herbs were no exception, with this great 1971 example made by Plug Publications Limited.
With lovely bright and crisp artwork.
Packet contents :- 4 panels featuring Parsley,
3 with Sage,
3 with Belladonna the Witch,
and 2 blank pieces that made up the top and bottom.
Only one design for each character.ie. the ones shown below are replicated throughout.
A slightly strange choice to use Belladonna ( No Dill ? )
As it's not the nicest image to send junior off to sleep with !
But very much of its' time, and yet still a really timeless design.
The Herbs and The Adventures of Parsley
On this page ..... A plastic lampshade -allbeit a very well produced one !
Above - The artist is uncredited.Which was usually the case when artwork was done by freelancers.
But the images look like they were probably done by someone who worked on the books and comics too.
Below - The information below was printed on the back of the packaging card.
And,as they produced many different printed versions of the same basic shade, they just photographed a plain one to replicate across the whole range - just adding the relevant copyright information for each one
But it doesn't take too much imagination to picture what The Herbs one would've looked like made up.
Or to realise that they weren't designed with dust-conscious mums in mind !
